When and how to cross the state border

Before planning your arrival in Slovenia, obtain information about the current situation and the measures in place at the country’s national borders. Certain limitations are in place for most visitors, and there are some exceptions. Among other measures, the following applies:

Individuals coming from a country or region on the red list must quarantine for 10 full days. As of 15 May, quarantine may be terminated after five days provided that the individual submits a negative PCR test. An individual who submits:

  • A negative PCR test for COVID-19 that is not older than 48 hours according to the date of the swab taken and which was carried out in an EU Member State, a Schengen Area Member State, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or the United States of America. When entering Slovenia, PCR tests done in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Israel or Russia are also valid.
  • at category A checkpoints for international air transport, negative PCR test results issued in Serbia and Turkey are also recognised.
  • Certificate of positive result of a PCR test that is older than 10 days and not older than six months, or medical certificate of recovery from COVID-19, if not more than six months have elapsed since the beginning of symptoms.

  • certificate of vaccination against COVID-19, which proves that:
    • at least seven days have passed since the second dose of the Comirnaty vaccine by Biontech/Pfizer,
    • at least 14 days have passed since the second dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine by Moderna,
    • at least 21 days have passed since the first dose of the Vaxzevria (COVID-19 Vaccine) by Moderna,
    • at least 14 days have passed since the first dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen by Johnson & Johnson/Janssen-Cilag,
    • at least 21 days have passed since the first dose of the Covishield vaccine by Serum Institute of India/AstraZeneca,
    • at least 14 days have passed since the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine by Russia's Gamaleya National Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology,
    • at least 14 days have passed since the second dose of the  CoronaVac vaccine by Sinovac Biotech, or
    • at least 14 days have passed since the second dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine by Sinopharm.

is not required to quarantine for 10 days.

As of 28 April, checkpoints on road connections in the border area with Italy and Austria are abolished. Checkpoints on the border with Hungary remain in force, i.e.:

  • category A checkpoints, at which everybody is allowed to cross the border, and which operate without disruption (Dolga vas, Pince–motorway),
  • category B checkpoints, at which, during certain time slots, persons to whom the exceptions for border crossing apply are allowed to cross the border. These points are primarily intended for border crossing by local residents (Hodoš, Čepinci).
